Though the combined ratings did well, Tuesday, individually they were a bit messy and the (4) and (5) graded races seem stuck in an average quagmire.

Overall, Wednesday's cards look no better than Monday's or Tuesday's, with a huge amount of inconsistent horses plying their lowly trade. A couple of the more consistent types interest me, though. Both have excuses for some defeats and have thus hidden their true modest best.

Spiders Star (3-20 Catterick) hasn't really enjoyed much luck the last twice and should have finished much closer to the winner both times. He is still in good form (and may still be progressing) and has winning experience over the course and distance. Casual Garcia, Harcas and Abstract Folly will have their supporters so a value price of 3/1 would make him an acceptable risk.

Scrapper Smith (5-10 Ayr) is improving and ran quite a lot better than his final position indicates last time. His trainer reckons he needs give in the ground and he has it tomorrow. This is a weaker race than he won (or the one he in which ran sixth of nine last time) so he won't necessarily have needed to improve to win this race. Residency and Miss Pusey Street are the obvious dangers.

The Handicap Ratings and Speed Ratings combined top three strike rate for Tuesday was 75% following Monday's 81% and Sunday's 76% -- an in-running weekly average of 77.3%

There were two from four successful (4) and (5) UK graded races, Tuesday, giving a winning top two strike rate of 50% following Monday's 50% and Sunday's 67% -- an in-running weekly average of 56.7%

The full top three summary for Tuesday:

The clear top rated winning strike rate of the (4) and (5) graded races Tuesday was another low 25% following Monday's very low 17% and Sunday's 33% -- an in running weekly average of only 25%

HANDICAPS
Clear top rated strike rate was 8%. Best top rated SP was 5/6
Top two strike rate (incl joints) was 33%. Best 2nd top SP was 3/1
Top three strike rate was 50%. Best 3rd top SP was 9/1

SPEED RATINGS
Clear top rated strike rate was 8%. Best top rated SP was 5/6
Top two strike rate (incl joints) was 42%. Best 2nd top SP was 6/1
Top three strike rate was 58%. Best 3rd top SP was 9/1
note: Unless there are overnight withdrawals there is always one clear top rated horse (in both services). There are never more than three horses (in either service) in the top two in any race where there are joint 2nd tops (one top rated two joint 2nd top). There are never more than four horses in the top three (in either service) in any race where there are either joint 2nd or joint third tops.

If a horse isn't in the top three rated of the handicaps or the speed ratings, then it is highly likely it won't win.
