All I will say about yesterday's each way selection is that some horses are not sent to win races. Lyceana was ridden as though she was being either educated or "looked after". But she has had six runs previously so didn't want educating. So she must have been looked after. If the latter is the case she should never have run. I watch future runs with interest - especially if she is stepped up in distance with a protected handicap mark.
I can't say the ratings were very good on an strange day. I am beginning to wonder about something once said to me about horses and weather. The theory is that some horses are adversely affected not by the physical weather, more by the sudden barometric change in the atmosphere. Interesting though that is, I can't quite wrap my head around the theory.
The Handicap Ratings and Speed Ratings combined top three strike rate for Monday was a meagre 56.5% following Sunday's 67%, an in running weekly average of 61.75%.
The (4) and (5) UK graded races held up well, though, Monday, giving a 100% top two success rate. Two were won by the clear top rated horse and two were won by 2nd top - one of them joint 2nd top.
The full top three summary for Monday was:
HANDICAPS
Clear top rated strike rate was 13%. Best top rated SP was 6/1
Top two strike rate (incl joints) was 35%. Best 2nd top SP was 9/2
Top three strike rate was 57%. Best 3rd top SP was 7/1
SPEED RATINGS
Clear top rated strike rate was 22%. Best top rated SP was 9/2
Top two strike rate (incl joints) was 35%. Best 2nd top SP was 7/1
Top three strike rate was 39%. Best 3rd top SP was 9/2
note: Unless there are overnight withdrawals there is always one clear top rated horse (in both services). There are never more than three horses in the top two in any race where there are joint 2nd tops (one top rated two joint 2nd top). There are never more than four horses in the top three in any race where there are either joint 2nd or joint third tops.
If a horse isn't in the top three rated of the handicaps or the speed ratings, then it is highly likely it won't win.

There has been a lot of notice given to Henry Cecil's Notice Given (6-20 Yarmouth) on the gallops and he's expected to win first time up.
Coconut Shy (7-40 Southwell) would be a big disappointment if she proved incapable of winning a claimer at Southwell. The only worry is that horses are placed in this sort of race for valid reasons and she has been put in for £14,000. Swiss Art looks the most likely forecast companion.
Have a good day
